14x17 Pastel portrait
~Commission me for a pastel painting of your very own furry bff by emailing

It is very rare that I pine away for a piece of art I no longer have. When I started making animal portraits, Ripley was one of the first dogs I painted in pastel. The idea I had in how I was going to paint this pup and then seeing it come to fruition felt utterly satisfying to me. Of course his posture, his adorable expression, and his curls all helped the process too!
As I worked though the process of painting this piece I felt no doubts or worries, just sheer joy in accomplishing something I set out to do in my work. I am certain thinking back to this early experience of painting Ripley encouraged me to continue when later projects weren't as easy.
I do take great comfort in knowing the person who rescued Ripley purchased this piece to give to the person who later adopted him, as a very generous surprise gift.
Ripley is right where he is supposed to be.
