It is very rare that I pine away for a piece of art I no longer have. When I started doing animal portraits Ripley was one of the first dogs I painted in pastel. The idea I had in how I was going to paint this pup and then seeing it come to reality was completely and utterly satisfying to me. Of course his posture, his adorable expression, and his curls all helped the process too!
It doesn't always happen when working on a piece but this one carried with it no doubts, no worries, just sheer joy in accomplishing something I set out to do in my work. I am certain thinking back to this first experience made me continue when later projects weren't as easy!
I take great comfort in knowing the person who rescued Ripley purchased this piece to give to the person who later adopted Ripley, as a very generous surprise gift.
